Is there a lot of homework?
Generally there is not a lot of homework. However, if you need to improve your English or math skills to meet employer standards, you may need to do additional work.
Can I work part-time while I am in training?
Yes – to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
What are the hours of training?
On-site - 30 hours per week 8:30 to 3:30, Monday to Friday
Work Experience - 40 hours per week 8:00 to 4:30, Monday to Friday
Will I need tools?
No. The only things you need are steel-toe capped boots, coveralls and plenty of enthusiasm. However, you must think about purchasing tools for when you start working full time after you graduation. Cost of tools is about $500-600.
Why should I take the program?
If you are looking to enter the automotive trades but do not have the education or training, Motive Action offers the perfect pre-apprenticeship program for you. Successfully completing our program will give you the necessary knowledge, skills, hands on experience, and connections to help you succeed.
What is Motive Action’s success rate?
Motive Action trains about 100 youth annually. Ninety-five percent (95%) of the graduates get full-time employment in the trades upon completion of the program. Success in the trades depends on hard work and reliability.
What is apprenticeship?
Apprenticeship is learning a skilled trade on the job from a professional tradesperson with the goal of obtaining your certification in your chosen trade. You can find additional information on apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs at tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca.
What qualifications do I need to start an apprenticeship?

Yes, by partnering with industry employers to provide work experience, Motive-Action provides you with direct contact with the employers who offer jobs and apprenticeships in the Calgary and area market.
